Established in 1999, Lingua Franca’s qualified team of experienced translators, revisers, proofreaders, and editors specializes in the translation of intellectual property documents from English into Spanish and Portuguese, particularly patents in the pharmaceutical, chemical and biological industries.

In collaboration with numerous language service providers and IP filing agents in Europe, the United States and Latin America, we have translated thousands of patent applications for several leading companies, including Abbot, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Neurogen, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Warner-Lambert or Syngenta, among many others.

For this, we use the latest Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, and have built, in the last two decades, a solid repository of translation memories and tailored terminology databases.

WORKFLOW

Receipt of the Document

We receive the project, which is analyzed to establish a budget according to its volume, format, repetitions, and new words. A deadline is set to meet the needs of the client's business or administrative process.
Team Assignment

The document is assigned to a project manager, who will evaluate its subject-matter, degree of difficulty and deadline. Based on these parameters, the project is assigned to the translator whose profile best fits these parameters. In the case of large volumes, the translation may be carried out by a coordinated team of more than one translator.
Translation

The linguist translates the text using translation (CAT) tools, taking advantage of translation memories and terminology bases from the same subject-matter and localization and/or tailored translation memories build for the specific client.
Proofreading

A senior proofreader thoroughly checks the translation against the original text and sends the corrected text back to the translator for him/her to analyze the changes and incorporate them into the translation memories.
Final Revision

The translated and edited document is returned to the project manager, who reviews it one last time to ensure that each of the client's specifications has been met.
Delivery

The final deliverables are sent to the client.
